Stephanie McMahon addresses the status of Evolution 2

Stephanie McMahon spoke with Talksport’s Alex McCarthy to discuss the “Women’s Evolution”, and if we are going to see another Evolution PPV.

In the interview, Stephanie was asked about the status of the all women’s PPV, Evolution 2 and if it will ever happen, the first women’s match in Saudi Arabia, The Women’s Evolution and a whole lot more.

Here are a few exerts of the press call.

“We saw a stat earlier that showed the first women’s match of the decade saw Mickie James and Michelle McCool go 20 seconds. The last women’s PPV match of the decade went over 20 minutes and was the main event of TLC on Sunday. Hearing a stat like that, how does it make you feel with the change and progress WWE has made?”

“I just couldn’t be more proud of the women’s evolution that has taken place in WWE and really all around the world, but especially WWE. When you consider the stat that you just gave me and then you think about the fact that our women headlined WrestleMania, which is akin to our biggest championship playoff, and our women were the main event. And then you consider that our women were allowed to compete for the first time in history in Saudi Arabia just about a month ago, it is… proud is the word that comes to mind. I’m so incredibly proud. And these women deserve every opportunity not because they’re women, but because they’re some of the greatest performers in WWE.”

“Speaking of the ladies, Ember Moon is the latest in a long line of women who is pushing for an Evolution 2. Is there anything you can tell us about the potential for that?”

“It is certainly something that we are pushing for. There’s no official announcement just yet and yes, there was a balls in the air and wheels in motion in terms of this year and, of course, one of the big focuses was on our event in Saudi Arabia and having our women being allowed to perform. I’m hopeful to have an announcement on an Evolution 2, but there is nothing official to announce just yet.”

“Women have just main evented two pay-per-views back-to-back. Looking at where women are today, who do you think deserves to be recognised behind the scenes? And how does it feel when female superstars credit you as part of the women’s evolution?”

“It’s humbling that anyone would bring up my name for a movement so big, but in order to truly effect change it takes all of us working together. When you think about anyone that has stepped foot inside what we call the squared circle throughout history, especially those pioneers, those women that stood in the face of complete adversity to try and make a name for themselves and make a stand. The men that supported them along the way; you’ve heard the names Fit Finlay, our first woman trainer and now head coach Sarah D’Amato, Matt Bloom and Triple H – especially in terms of our recruiting efforts, his entire team. Really, it takes everyone to make this happen, but most especially, the credit really goes to the WWE Universe. Without them demanding it, I’m not sure it would have happened as quickly as we were able to make it happen – and we’ve still got a long way to go.”

In summary, WWE wants to announce something about Evolution 2 but they don’t have anything to announce just yet. Nothing new then.

A true master of PR and all media related interactions, Stephanie McMahon has mastered the art of speaking and answering questions without really saying something or divulging any information. Triple H was asked the same question in relation to the status of Evolution 2 and basically said the same thing back in October and as the year draws to a close we are still none the wiser.

Personally I find it astonishing that they haven’t done the all-female PPV or the Mae Young Classic this year. Stars such as Shayna Baszler, Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, and Kairi Sane all arrived on our screens at the Mae Young Classic and Evolution was a hugely successful event and with worldwide critical acclaim and public praise.

The women’s division has never been better either, Becky Lynch is the face of the entire company and the last two PPV’s have featured women’s main events, which makes it very strange that WWE wouldn’t capitalize on the popularity and prominence. Hopefully, we’ll a get definitive answer soon.
