5. Stephanie McMahon vs Vince McMahon, No Mercy, 2003. I Quit Match.
This made for some uncomfortable viewing. Vince McMahon tried his damndest to get his daughter to resign her post as Smackdown General Manager. After putting her in matches against Big Show, Brock Lesnar, and A-Train to no avail, the boss decided to deal with her himself. If he got her to say “I Quit”, she had to resign as General Manager, if she defeated him in any capacity, he would resign as Chairman of WWE. I still don’t know, almost 17 years later, how to feel about the match. From a wrestling standpoint, it wasn’t much. It was actually pretty basic.
It was a drawn-out squash that saw Vince beat the brakes off his daughter for minutes straight, with Stephanie getting little offense in without a prayer to win this match. That’s why it worked for me. For the first time in nearly 4 years in watching Stephanie, I as a fan was rooting for her, and was hoping that she could do the impossible, if only for a brief moment. Of course we knew Stephanie would lose, but who would or could have predicted that she would be so thoroughly manhandled, and the person doing the manhandling would be her father?
