Tonight at SummerSlam, AJ Lee defends the Divas Title against Paige. Who will come out on top? The Diva Dirt team weighs in:
Adrian: These two are pretty much each other’s only legitimate competition right now, so I’m expecting this feud to continue for a while after this (read: until Charlotte is called up). As a result it doesn’t really matter who wins, but I’ll go with AJ Lee because Paige has been great as a chaser and it’ll make her eventual win when the feud blows off so much sweeter.
Bobby: I don’t think this feud has peaked enough yet for Paige to emerge victorious. She NEEDS to go full on heel like we thought she was going to do when she turned on Raw a few weeks ago, and the only thing I can think of to make her truly snap is for AJ Lee to retain tonight and that be two title shots in a row she doesn’t win. If she wins tonight what will make her change from this watered down mind games-y version of herself? I can’t think of anything, and I don’t want mind games Paige to go on for too much longer. What I think happens is the two put on a better match than Battleground, but still don’t peak just yet. Then tomorrow night on Raw Paige will finally snap and become the Anti-Diva we want, which will propel their feud to new heights from then until Night of Champions and they can finally get the stipulation match, or at the very least a submission match if they don’t want to involve weapons. There’s just so many possibilities for Paige when it comes to title feuds considering most if not all of the faces are built up or at least over enough to be legitimate challengers whereas on the heel side I think other than Paige, you have Alicia Fox who could come back into the picture and then Cameron a little bit down the road since Tamina Snuka‘s injured. AJ Lee needs a little longer reign as champion and so I think for tonight she retains to lead towards Paige finally snapping and owning my existence.
Chris: I fully expect these two to pull out all of the stops at SummerSlam. Paige is the only person who has ever been able to successfully get into the head of AJ Lee, but will it lead to a second title reign? Not yet. AJ Lee will find a way to outsmart Paige and retain the Divas Championship.
Cryssi: This is another match that has a great storyline, amazing build, and two talented competitors. AJ has looked better since returning earlier this summer and I think this match will surpass their one from last month, which kind of let me down. Paige shines as a heel character and both of them seem to be more comfortable working together now. Again, I’m looking forward to this and could see it going either way. But, I’m more decided with this match so I’ll say that AJ Lee retains.
Eleri: I see AJ picking up the victory here, but I don’t expect Paige to fall by the way side. I think there’s a lot left to be explored between these two girls, and see the feud carrying on. So AJ Lee for the win.
Erin: I’m having a hard time figuring out if this feud is supposed to continue past SummerSlam or not. It feels like we keep waiting for it to kick into “full gear” and, in my opinion, it just hasn’t happened yet. Regardless, I don’t see AJ dropping the title any time soon, so I’m gonna go with AJ Lee to retain here.
Jack: I am absolutely loving this feud and can’t wait for this match, despite their mediocre first PPV outing last month. A really, really short title reign hasn’t happened in a while, plus Faces are better at chasing the title a lot of the time so I’m going with Paige to win this one. I don’t know why, I just have a feeling (and I’m also a massive die-hard Paige fan). Heart is kind of ruling over head with this one.
Steven: Before I even get into my prediction, let me just say how grateful I am for this rivalry. Let’s face it, AJ ruled the Divas division with an iron fist for a long time, and took on every challenger that was thrown at her. While it was fun for a while, it’s nice to see a challenger that has found a chink in her armor, and is giving her a run for her money. It makes for a very satisfying storyline. That said, Paige has managed to get the upper hand on AJ these past few weeks, which can only mean one thing… AJ retains tonight. I predict AJ Lee pinning Paige, but using some sketchy tactics, allowing this feud to continue on. Maybe a helping hand from another Diva?! Oh, dear lord, maybe we’ll get a Tamina return!!!
