Tonight at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, Asuka defends the NXT Women’s Title against Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot in a triple threat match. Will a new champion be crowned? The Diva Dirt team weighs in:
Abir: This used to be Asuka’s story, but now that she’s on the top, it’s become Ember‘s. Ever since she lost her first match at the last Takeover, Ember has been trying to reform herself, and with the fact that an injury has her sidelined from this contest, I doubt anyone but Asuka will be walking away with the championship gold. Ember will overcome her biggest threat when the time comes, and it’ll come in the form of the NXT Women’s championship and conquering the streak.
Alex: I’m expecting Asuka to win to finally make them acknowledge her streak as we head into Summerslam! It’s predictable, but I don’t see her making her main roster debut yet. There’s a certain Ms.Moon who is waiting in the wings who will be making her mark soon!
Josue: I truly think that if Ember was not sidelined with an injury, she would be the one dethroning Asuka tonight. With that being said, Asuka will retain tonight and at the next NXT TakeOver, we’ll see that one-on-one title rematch between Asuka and Ember Moon where the next Women’s Champion will be crowned.
Kyle: I wish we had more of cocky Poolside Asuka in the buildup to this match, but I am really digging the character development of her feeling threatened of having her first loss. While I think the intent of this original Fatal-4-way match was to have Ember come close to earning the winning pinfall and Asuka steal the win at the last moment. However, Ember’s injury threw a wrench into the plans. I think with that said, this match will serve as more of a showcase for the newcomer Ruby Riot and a further platform for the dynamic Nikki Cross. But in the end, it will be that double kick combo and Asuka scores the 1,2,3.
Matthew: Asuka retains, pure and simple. Nikki needs a little more time and Ruby Riot is still getting used to the NXT life. It’s not a knock on these two individuals, but if there is anyone who can take down Aauka’s reign, it has to be Ember Moon. But Ember is on the shelf, so it makes sense that Asuka wins.
Stephanie: NXT is in a dire need of a shakeup. However, tonight is not the night that will change anything. I expect this match to showcase Ruby and Nikki but Asuka will swoop in for the win, perhaps in another controversial fashion. We all know Ember is the chosen one and Asuka knows it too.
