AEW had its Full Gear event this past Saturday and Tay Conti had perhaps the biggest match of her career. She faced off against Dr. Britt Baker to challenge for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Baker attempted to put Conti away via submission with the Lock Jaw on a couple of occasions but Conti did a great job getting away from the submission finisher. Unfortunately Conti’s efforts weren’t enough this go-around and Baker retained after stacking up her challenger for the pinfall.
Conti took to social media after the match to both acknowledge Baker for elevating her and for pulling out her best while also stating that this is not over and she will her way to a title shot once again. She adds that she didn’t fail, she learned.
Also at Full Gear on the Buy In preshow, there was a tag team match between four women in the TBS Women’s Title Tournament. Nyla Rose teamed up with Jamie Hayter who took on Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa. During the match Serena Deeb was out at ringside to distract her recent foe Shida. Vickie Guerrero also got involved with a kendo stick to the former champion. With all this being said, Shida picked up the huge win for her team when she countered Rose’s Beast Bomb into a jackknife cover to secure the victory.
Not only did this victory give Shida and Rosa a win at the event but it elevated Shida for when she faces Rose this Wednesday on Dynamite. The two collide in the first quarter-finals match to determine the inaugural TBS Champion. As for Rosa, she will be facing Hayter in the quarter-finals on a date to be determined. There are a total of eight women left vying to capture the gold.
