The Champions Retain At Great American Bash! Kendal Grey Has NXT In-Ring Debut

Hey everyone!! Another jam packed episode of NXT last night, with four women’s matches on the card. Let’s get right into it because the tag team champions are kicking off the show!

Women’s Tag Team Titles: Meta Four vs. The Unholy Union

Brawl before the bell even rings! We’re starting fast! Alba Fyre sends Jakara Jackson into the buckle for two and into a double suplex.Lash Legend gets the tag and cleans house going into the break. Solid match all around with MetaFour getting to show off their improvement. Great double team move onto Isla Dawn with M4 hitting a wheelbarrow/cutter combination with Fyre making the save. Finish sees the Evil Touch to Jackson for the Unholy Untion to retain.

Winners: The Unholy Union

In a post-match interview, the champions show they aren’t worried about defending on Friday’s SmackDown as they laugh off Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill saying they already beat them.

Kendal Grey vs. Jaida Parker

I believe this is my first time seeing Kendal Grey compete in the ring, the generic diva attire is confirming this. Either way, Kendal hits a flurry to start the match. Parker gains the upperhand though, and I said it in the chat last night but man does Jaida just get it in the ring. Seated abdominal stretch with a cool camera angle with Grey getting that babyface momentum and out comes Miles Borne and Wren Sinclair. Grey hits another exploding suplex on Borne to the outside and then gets back into the ring to hit an Angle Slam for two on Parker. Back up and another distraction into a running hip attack by Parker for the pin.

Winner: Jaida Parker

Jacy Jayne, Jazmyn Nyx, Fallon Henley vs. Sol Ruca, Karmen Petrovic, Lola Vice

Henley and Ruca start the match off exchanging taunts with one another. Fast paced out to start off the match, Petrovic comes in to attack Nyx, then enter Lola who comes in and gets rolled for two by Jacy, only for Vice to answer back with a spinebuster.

At one point Lola comes in and hits a flurry of kicks on the heels. The fast paced action continues with Ruca hitting a springboard flipping double clothesline. Same move she pulled out against Kelani for the NA Championshi!

Nyx hits a hook fisherman suplex for two, everyone is getting a chance to shine in this match! Finish sees Henley hit some kind of pumphandle suplex transitioning into a cutter for the pin on Petrovic.

Winners: Fallon, Jazmyn & Jacy

Backstage we have the NXT Women’s North American Champion Kelani Jordan getting approached by Tatum. Kelani doesn’t want to play with Tatum Paxley and her dolls. And continues to get freaked out when she notices Wendy Choo behind them.

NXT Women’s Title Match: Roxanne Perez vs. Thea Hail

Thea Hail, accompanied by Chase U, challenges Roxanne Perez for the title. Hail goes for early rollups, but Perez avoids a Kimura lock by escaping to the ropes. Hail impresses with a middle rope moonsault to the floor as we head to a break. Back from commercial, Hail lands a DDT, leaving both competitors down.

Perez misses a backsplash, allowing Hail to briefly take control with a World’s Smallest Slam. Perez counters with a crossface, but Hail escapes to the floor and lands a dive after some distraction from Chase U. A Michinoku Driver gets Hail a close two-count, but Perez targets her arm. A series of counters follows, with Perez reversing a Kimura into another crossface, leading to a Samoan drop by Hail and a near fall from a springboard backsplash.

Perez tries to rake Hail’s eyes but ends up shoulder-first into the post. The Kimura goes on again, but Perez reaches the ropes and rolls to the outside. Perez rams Hail into the steps and reapplies the crossface, which Hail counters back into the Kimura. Perez escapes once more and hits Pop Rox to retain the title.

Winner: Roxanne Perez

In a post-match moment, Perez says backstage that she is the beat woman in the world. Slightly taking her wrestling father’s catchphrase (CM Punk – BITW). She once again names Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer because the gals are coming!

Similarly to the Tag Team match earlier in the night where you had them advertising the match between Isla/Dawn vs. Jade/Bianca on Friday, with Guilia and Stephanie in the wings, it was hard to get behind Thea here bc you knew the match was a foregone conclusion. Regardless, Perez is delivering memorable matches during this reign. Heel heavy night for NXT but I’m not mad at any of the outcomes.

SummerSlam is this Saturday so be on the lookout for predictions later in the week. See everyone on Saturday!
