TELEVISED MATCH OF THE YEAR
Beth Phoenix vs Eve Torres
Vengeance, October 23rd
With Divas rarely getting an opportunity to show what they can do on Raw or SmackDown, October’s Vengeance pay per view allowed the world to be shown just what they are capable of when Beth Phoenix and Eve Torres pushed each other to their limits in a hard fought, back and forth, technical match.
Following the Glamazon’s title victory over Kelly Kelly earlier in the month, Eve became the new challenger and in arguably her best match in WWE ever, gave as good as she got against Beth and proved her worth in the ring. Often criticized and considered a “model”, Eve showed off her technical ability, utilizing her experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and showing off some impressive submission moves to ground the mighty Glamazon.
This match brought out the best in both Divas and was one of those rare moments when WWE managed to deliver without even putting much effort into it. Perhaps the Divas themselves took the reins on this one hence the competitive nature of this bout, but they certainly took advantage of their pay per view platform and gave fans their money’s worth.
This was a shining example of what Divas matches could be on a weekly basis if given the time.
