The Five to Watch 2012: Saturyne

Welcome to Diva Dirt’s Five to Watch 2012! This annual list compiles five rising talents in the world of female wrestling that we think have what it takes to be the next big thing. From their in-ring abilities to their unique personalities, we aim to spotlight some of the upcoming female talent that you may not yet know about. Over the next five days, we will unveil the names that the Diva Dirt staff have handpicked. Meet the Class of 2012…

SATURYNE

Who is she?
CHIKARA has welcomed several women into their fold over the years, but perhaps none as mysterious and intriguing as their “luchadora intergaláctica”, Saturyne. This masked female only made her professional wrestling debut just over a year ago, but is already making waves on the independent scene – impressing everyone with an arsenal of tricky aerial manoeuvres, her graceful acrobatics and flexibility.

Her story so far…
Debuting in November 2011 for a small, wacky promotion in Pennsylvania called Wrestling Is Fun!, Saturyne followed it up by quickly becoming a regular fixture in CHIKARA. Although her first match with the company (teaming with Dasher Hatfield against Los Ice Creams during Night 3 of JoshiMania in December) ended in a loss, she has proven that she is not afraid to mix it up with the males and often takes them to the limit in singles competition. Following her three-on-two handicap match at Chikarasaurus Rex: How to Hatch a Dinosaur in June 2012 (in which she and Sara Del Rey defeated The Batiri by disqualification), Twitter was inundated with pleas for other companies to book her, with SHIMMER Women Athletes being one of the top suggestions.

While Saturyne’s brief appearance for Ring of Honor in January 2012 (as part of the CHIKARA invasion) unfortunately didn’t culminate in much, the new WSU, on the other hand, seems to have taken notice of the rookie sensation. Saturyne toppled Niya at their “Full Steam Ahead” show in October to receive a full-time roster spot.

Why we chose her:
It’s only been a year since she made her in-ring debut and already she’s made quite the impact. Masked female wrestlers in the United States are scarce, and with flashy, high-flying moves as part of her repertoire, Saturyne makes for a unique and entertaining addition to any card. The sky is the limit for this out-of-this-world superstar.
