WWE’s Australian duo, The IIconics, accomplished a tremendous goal at WrestleMania by becoming the Women’s Tag Team Champions. Since winning the titles over a month ago, the pair continue to soak in the joy of being on top.
Since WrestleMania, WWE has announced that the company will be returning to Australia in October. The cities will include, Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. Most recently, the company was in the land down under for the Super Show-Down event that took place in Melbourne in 2018. The IIconics recently spoke with Fox Sports Australia in regards to their feelings of being champions and WWE returning to Australia later this year.
The ladies first speak on how high their emotions are still from becoming champions. Peyton Royce had the following to say:
“I feel like a month later we’re still soaking it all in,” Royce told Foxsports.com.au. She continues, “We still have conversations when we’re traveling on the road now, and we start talking about it and get goosebumps, and we start crying again, it’s still so surreal for us.”
Billie Kay adds to Royce’s sentiments in regards to the reactions they have received from their victory. The outpouring of support from their family, friends, and fans really seem to hit home for the duo.
“Right after the match we had to do a bunch of media really quickly, but then we got back and looked at our phones and they were just flooded with messages,” Kay said. “Not just from friends and family, but from people we hadn’t talked to in a while, it was very overwhelming all the love and support we got right afterward. All of our families were watching live which made it even more special.”
Although there is no guarantee that the team will still be champions come October, they will still be featured on the Australian tour. It is a rarity that WWE travels to Australia, so they don’t get to see their loved ones nearly as much as they would like. They intend on performing as much as they can in front of their loved ones.
Kay had the following to say in regards to returning home later this year:
“We absolutely love coming back to Australia for any opportunity,” Kay said. “We don’t get to come home very often so it’s just the best feeling to be able to perform in front of our family and friends on home turf. There’s no better feeling for us – it’s the fruits of our labour.”
If The IIconics are no longer champions by the time this tour rolls around, then maybe they can attempt to become the first ever two-time Women’s Tag Team Champions?
