It appears that Mickie James isn’t the only IMPACT champion that WWE had reached out to for a Royal Rumble appearance.
According to a report from Fightful Select, The IInspiration who are the current Knockouts World Tag Team Champions were offered spots in the upcoming Royal Rumble match. Much like James, the team known formerly as The IIconics and individually as Peyton Royce (Cassie Lee) and Billie Kay (Jessica McKay), were released from WWE in 2021 right after WrestleMania in April.
Fightful has learned that the duo was offered the spots in the Rumble match but turned down the offer. Lee and McKay reportedly didn’t feel it was the right time to make a return to WWE in any capacity as they are happy with their current path.
When IMPACT was questioned about the possibility from Fightful, they were told the appearance would have been signed off on and approved. WWE was fine working on a similar agreement as they have with Mickie James.
Furthermore, it has been said that McKay and Lee weren’t the only releases over the past year that WWE reached out to.
The IInspiration made their debut as Knockouts to IMPACT in October for the promotion’s Bound for Glory event. They won their debut match and became the tag team champions in the process by defeating Decay.
The Royal Rumble currently has 21 out of the 30 women confirmed for the annual match.
