Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell of The Way are now your new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions after defeating Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon in a main event Street Fight.
This is the first gold won for both women within the company. LeRae & Hartwell also captured the titles without any assistance from the male members of The Way. Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory left the arena after attacking NXT Champion Karrion Kross earlier in the night.
Despite Dexter Lumis making an appearance earlier in the night as well behind a closed door in the locker room with roses in hand, he would not appear during the match. LeRae made sure Hartwell didn’t see him in order to prevent any distractions.
The match started immediately after all four women got into the ring. With it being a Street Fight, the match quickly spilled to the outside and the weapons and artillery started to be pulled out. Tables, ladders, chairs, fire extinguishers, and more were used throughout the match.
As the match gets towards its finish, Hartwell and Blackheart are battling by the announce table. Hartwell cleared the table and Blackheart smacked her with a coffee mug. Blackheart then climbed the lighting structure to deliver a cross body onto Hartwell as both women crashed through the desk.
Back in the ring, LeRae and Moon trade near falls. Moon then heads up top for the Eclipse but LeRae stops her. Blackheart somehow got back in the ring after the table bump to help her partner. Hartwell back in the ring as well leaped off the top rope and came crashing down through Moon who was set up on a table on the outside of the ring.
LeRae then uses brass knuckles followed up by the Wicked Step-Sister to Blackheart on top of a steel chair to get the three-count, the pin, and we have new champions!!
This match was also the first main event that WWE referee Aja Smith has officiated so far in her career with the company.
The other women’s match of the night saw two newcomers who have already picked up wins in their first singles matches. Sarray took on Zayda Ramier and walked away with her second victory. After the match, Ramier was backstage recovering from her battle when Sarray came to deliver some good sportsmanship. Toni Storm was making her way towards the two before Zoey Stark stopped her. The two would then have a stare down.
This encounter between Stark and Storm led to a promo by Storm. She states that Stark doesn’t deserve to be in the same ring as her.
Other women on the show included Kayden Catanzaro and Kacy Catanzaro. They haven’t been seen since they took off from an encounter with Tian Sha. The team says they don’t want to even hear that name again or worry about Xia Li or Mei Ying. Their focus was the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles and they would be watching the Street Fight closely.
Franky Monet then entered and stated that she believes in them but doesn’t feel they will be winning the titles anytime soon.
Lastly there was a promo between the NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez and her challenger next week, Mercedes Martinez.
Gonzalez started by saying how she respects Martinez. Martinez cuts her off and says that she should be respected. The challenger says she is hungry and when Gonzalez looks into her eyes she doesn’t see any fear and should see a woman who never stays down. Gonzalez says she sees a woman who is going to get her ass kicked.
Martinez then calls Gonzalez cookie cutter and was molded after the blueprint that she created. Gonzalez says that Martinez did set the bar, but she set it down low. In one year, the champion says she has accomplished more than the veteran has in her entire career. And in one night, Martinez says she will end the championship reign of Gonzalez.
Gonzalez confirms that Martinez will be the first challenger, but she won’t be the last.
The two collide next week with the championship on the line.
