Another year has come to a close and another set of women have grabbed the headlines, broken barriers, entertained, and had women’s wrestling fans talking. As the world’s leading source for female wrestling, we felt we needed to honor the year’s biggest movers and shakers by compiling our first annual Women of the Year list.
A la TIME’s Person of the Year list, Diva Dirt has compiled a countdown of the women we feel have best embodied the zeitgeist of the year in women’s wrestling. To compile this list, the Diva Dirt team have tracked the headlines here at Diva Dirt over the past 12 months, followed the lively fan debate on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, considered the impact that the women have made within the industry, and taken into account personal achievements as well.
The Women of the Year have defined the spirit of 2011 for Diva Dirt and its readers. They’ve been memorable, entertaining, shocking, the center of controversy and debate, as well as had a place in fans’ hearts.
No doubt you’ll be seeing a lot of “Best of” lists in the coming weeks, but Diva Dirt’s Women of the Year list utilizes our own unique perspective on the year, considering the news agenda in 2011, as well as the bigger picture such as the impact each woman has had in the industry.
