The ROH Women’s Title Tournament Quest for Gold kicked off this weekend with three first-round matches on ROH TV. ROH is set to crown a new champion on Sept. 12 at Death Before Dishonor.
Miranda Alize defeated Alex Gracia
The first match had Alex Gracia face Miranda Alize. The two are very familiar with one another and are close outside the ring. Despite Gracia’s best effort and working hard to get into the tournament, Alize was the better woman in the end and picked up the big first win.
Nicole Savoy defeated Mazzerati
Secondly, Nicole Savoy took on Mazzerati. Mazzerati had a big hill to climb as Savoy is the longest-reigning champion in SHIMMER history. Savoy was able to pick up the win in this exchange and she will go on to face Alize in the quarter-finals.
Rok-C defeated Sumie Sakai
In the main event, Rok-C perhaps had the biggest challenge of the night as she had to face form Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai. Sakai is also the first woman to ever hold gold for the ROH promotion. At just 19-years of age, Rok-C pulled out the upset and defeated the veteran advancing her to the quarter-finals. She will be facing the winner of Mandy Leon vs. Quinn McKay.
Upcoming first-round matches for the tournament include:
Women Division Wednesday, Aug. 4
Allysin Kay vs. Willow
