Thunder Rosa gets revenge on Mercedes Martinez in No DQ match

Thunder Rosa and Mercedes Martinez battled on this week’s AEW Dynamite in a second encounter since Martinez became All Elite.

Martinez joined AEW and instantly targeted Rosa costing her a shot at the finals for the TBS Championship in December. Once originally thought to be a helper for Jade Cargill, it turns out that it was actually the AEW Women’s World Champion Dr. Britt Baker that brought Martinez in to put an end to Rosa.

In their first encounter, Martinez caused a rare disqualification in an AEW match by wielding a lead pipe. As a result, the two did battle in a no disqualification match in which Rosa came out the victor.

Before the bell even rang, the two went at it on the ramp with the lead pipe in Martinez’s hands and Rosa utilizing a steel chair. Shortly after the match began, Martinez was thrown into the barricade knocking it down. This caused the fight to spill out into the crowd with some great spots being executed.

Big spots in the match included Martinez executing a fishermans buster on a table that was leaning up against the ring apron and later on Martinez hit a spider german suplex off the top turnbuckle.

At the end of the match, Rosa hit a crucifix bomb before delivering the Fire Thunder Driver on a pile of steel chairs. She rolled over Martinez to get the pin and the victory.

After the bout, Rosa went to help up Martinez and the two seemed to show each other a sign of respect. Baker and her entourage of Jamie Hayter and Rebel came down to the ring. Baker gave the lead pipe to Martinez to put the exclamation point on a fallen Rosa (after Hayter and Rebel took her out), but Martinez hesitated too long as Hayter attacked her. Both Rosa and Martinez were left laid out to end the segment.

On this Friday’s (Feb. 18) Rampage, Serena Deeb will be in action with her 5-minute professor rookie challenge.
