Becky Lynch vs Asuka – Royal Rumble
Asuka had finally been crowned the SmackDown Women’s Champion after defeating Charlotte and Becky Lynch in an amazing TLC match the month prior. The match was Askua’s first title defence and the first time she and Lynch had met in one-on-one action.
Lynch would win a triple threat match against Charlotte and Carmella to become number one contender for Asuka’s championship.
Tensions were still high between the two from the build-up to TLC, which never more so evident when they engaged in a heated brawl on the following SmackDown.
The match was a great-paced, technical and hard-hitting affair as Lynch and Asuka went all out to cancel each other’s submission attempts and big moves.
Asuka would take the victory and SmackDown women’s title but Becky’s night was not over just yet as she went on to win the women’s Royal Rumble match to solidify her place at WrestleMania.
