Rhea Ripley wins NXT Women’s Championship

If anyone is to challenge Becky Lynch for having the best 2019 it will be Rhea Ripley. Winner of the first-ever women’s WarGames match, defeated Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks in a triple threat match, lead Team NXT to victory at Survivor Series and finished the year as NXT Women’s Champion.

The title change had been months in the making and all started when Ripley would make a shock appearance on NXT to challenge Shayna Baszler for the title.

The reaction to Rhea since her return to NXT no doubt gave WWE the confidence to push her further into the limelight and onto becoming the hottest name in the industry. Ripley has rewarded WWE’s trust by performing her duties on television and PPV as the NXT megastar 110%. As WarGames, Survivor Series and their respective builds proved, Rhea is more than capable of hanging with the best and biggest names on the WWE roster.

After such an amazing three month period it was a no-brainer that Ripley would have Baszler’s number and it was never so clear when the title match was announced for Dec, 18. NXT.

After 415-days in her second reign, Baszler seemed undefeatable as NXT Women’s Champion having gone through all challengers such as Bianca Belair, Candice LeRae, and Io Shirai just to name but a few.

But Baszler had never faced anyone quite like Rhea Ripley and in the highly anticipated main event of the NXT episode “The Nightmare” Rhea Ripley would defeat one of the most dominant champions in NXT history.

What a match and what a moment as Rhea Ripley becomes the first-ever woman to become both the NXT UK and NXT Women’s Champion.
