1. Charlotte vs. Asuka – WrestleMania 34
There are many strong contenders for most memorable matches, but Asuka vs Charlotte is objectively the most impressive in-ring performance featuring women in WrestleMania history. As a matter of fact, it was probably the best match on the card last year.
These two women put on a show. It was hard-hitting, theatrical, unpredictable, and incredibly entertaining from start to finish. Without spending this entire page listing great spots, there were three that stood out: the Spanish Fly, the suplex off the apron to the outside, and Asuka’s countering Flair’s moonsault into a triangle submission.
This match was so crisp and fluid. Neither one of them could seem to outwit the other for the first half but it ended a little abruptly when Charlotte pulled off an amazing one-armed Figure Eight Leg Lock to end Asuka’s undefeated streak.
Now, the result can be considered controversial. There’s a fair argument that this loss, and gracious acceptance, did irreparable damage to The Empress of Tomorrow’s mystique. Regardless, this championship match delivered.
