WWE’s yearly Extreme Rules pay-per-view is just a week from Sunday and all eyes are on the Winners Take All mixed tag team match. This match has recently received Extreme Rules implications added to it.
Recently women have been ushered into matches that were predominately just for the men. Last year there was an Extreme Rules match between Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss. The match was clunky at best, but it still added a different feel to a standard match.
The Extreme Rules events are rather hit or miss when it comes to its name being utilized. “Everything being extreme” is how it used to be considered. This event started in 2009, which marks this year’s show as its tenth anniversary.
Of the 10 years that this pay-per-view has been gracing the fans of WWE, the women have had matches in all but two of them. In its first year in 2009, there was a dark match between Kelly Kelly and Mickie James facing Beth Phoenix and Rosa Mendes. There was no actual woman’s match on the card itself. In 2013 there wasn’t a match for the women.
