Two major things in the past few years have helped women’s wrestling in WWE become a highlight to the industry. These events are the Mae Young Classic Tournament (MYC) and the Evolution pay-per-view. The last we saw either one of these events was in 2018. Many fans showed displeasure when the MYC and Evolution were not a part of 2019’s schedule.
Triple H and Shawn Michaels spoke to Inside The Ropes in regards to the NXT UK brand and about the talent in the UK. This morphed into speaking about the MYC and about finding talent all around the world to participate as can be seen by the prior two tournaments. In this, Triple H mentions that the next one is coming soon.
“We’re gonna do it again here soon, and we’re kind of getting to that point again now, like, wow, there is just a lot out there. So they are here and there and they’re all over the place. I think the talent sort of gravitate toward finding each other and they end up in these little pockets and then they’re all learning from each other but helping to bring that out and show it to the rest of the world is the goal.”
With the current health landscape that is currently affecting everyone around the globe, this could be harder than normal to put together. However, WWE has seemed to keep moving forward with shows and conducting them without a crowd and taking extreme precaution.
The prior winners of the Mae Young Classic Tournaments, Kairi Sane and Toni Storm, have gone on to win championships. Sane is a former NXT Women’s Champion as well as a Women’s Tag Team Champion. Storm has held the NXT UK Women’s Title.
