For those who may not have seen, AEW’s Britt Baker was shown in the crowd during NXT TakeOver: WarGames. It is no surprise that she was there based on her boyfriend, NXT Champion Adam Cole, being in the main event WarGames match.
The camera caught her in the crowd after the main event ended. She was rightfully concerned as both Cole and Tommaso Ciampa came crashing down from the top of the cage. They went through the tables below them and Ciampa fell on top of Cole giving him the pin. Not only was her reaction shown, but commentator Mauro Ranallo mentioned her by name which was surprising to most viewers.
This led to Triple H speaking out about the situation in a post show media call with Wrestle Zone. He had the following to say:
“They took a shot—the director that took the shot didn’t know who it was. He just went to the woman in the crowd with the most concerned look on her face and he took the shot,” Triple H explained. “I don’t have a problem with it in any way, shape or form. Then to not address it, then it’s the elephant in the room and you’re making it ‘that was weird…’ so you’ve got to address it.”
He stated he spoke with both Adam Cole and Britt Baker after the show and stated he did not have any problems with what occurred. He understands the situation they are in and respects it. This wasn’t the first time Baker was shown which also happened once before as she was sitting near Stephanie McMahon. This time it was more obvious.
Triple H continues, “I don’t have a problem with it in any way, shape or form but I would never want to put talent in that position. I get why she’s here, I get who she’s here with and I would never want to put her in a position where I took a shot of her and it gets her heat, or it gets her a problem with her employers and what she’s doing. I wouldn’t want that to be a problem for her and it very easily could be.”
More than likely nothing will come of this from AEW, but the situation is understandably a topic of discussion.
