I have had the pleasure of watching both Trish’s first and last match live in the span of 19 years. From the moment I first saw her when I was 9 years old, she became a favorite of mine. When she retired the first time when I was 15, I was devastated. She was a personal and sentimental favourite. She was an integral part of my childhood, I loved her matches, copied her moves; her point, The Matrish and Chick Kick in particular. I integrated the word “Faction” into my own name, Mykel.
Though she was seen as an inspiration to young girls, she also inspired me, and I am sure a horde of young boys. I followed her post-WWE career, watched her movies, bought her DVDs and was always excited to see Trish come back for a match and look like she didn’t miss a step.
As I got older, and now in my 28th year of life, she was that last great women’s wrestling link to my childhood, as the other women involved around her time have passed, retired or are inactive. Sunday she got a well-deserved send-off, and I, as well as many of the fans I’m sure, wish her the best. She’s the mother of two small children, a wife, and she has given us so much of herself for nearly 20 years, that all that can be said from me to you, Trish, should you ever read this, is “Thank you”.
