WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus recently spoke to the Huffington Post about her upcoming movie, Gridlocked.
The action movie – premiering September 26th at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas – sees Trish play the lone female officer in a group fighting to overcome a siege by armed mercenaries.
In discussing her character, Trish couldn’t help but draw parallels to her WWE persona:
“I play a female who’s trying to make her mark in a male-dominated world,. She’s proven herself, and through her work, she’s earned her spot in the boy’s club. The environment she is in is very much like with my wrestling days, very much like my [WWE] Trish Stratus character. A strong-willed female who kicks some serious ass — sounds familiar, right?”
Part of what drew her to this movie, Trish says, was exploring new fighting styles:
“Much like my first film (Bounty Hunters, 2011), with this one, I got to explore a new fighting art and work with new fight choreographers. I love getting the opportunity to mesh different fight styles.”
She also spoke about her WWE days, explaining what made that Divas era so special:
“We had the chance to develop the crowd’s interest in women’s wrestling organically. The women I was working with at the time were just phenomenal. During that time, we had to reeducate the fans on what to expect from women in the ring. It was a very special time where we were appreciated for the athleticism we brought to our performances.”
Those missing some Stratusfaction in their lives should seek out the movie, as Trish succinctly suggests:
“If you’re expecting Trish Stratus action, you should be very pleased with this film!”
