WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus is raising money for a very personal cause: fighting lymphoma.
The disease, which her mother successfully fought in 2006, is the focus of the Take it to the Mat fundraising event.
The event, presented by Lymphoma Canada, is described as a “wellness journey” that will feature talks and yoga sessions with Toronto’s wellness gurus. It is pledge-driven, and participants are encouraged to raise funds through donations.
Trish Stratus will serve as “Mistress of Ceremonies” and has her own fundraising page, which has already surpassed her $1,000 goal.
On the page, Trish talks about her personal connection to the disease, writing:
I’m not sure how many of you know that one of the reasons I retired from wrestling in 2006 was because my mom was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma and I knew if I was still on the road I wouldn’t be able to be by her side during the chemotherapy and post-recovery. It certainly made my decision to step away from WWE easier knowing I could be there for my mom, So, now to be asked to be a part of this event really means a lot to me. And, I would love it you could support this cause as well on behalf of me and Stratusphere – and MOM! By the way, she fought it and is in remission right now! My mom is more fierce of a fighter than my seven-time championship winning butt any day of the week – she’s the real champ!
You can donate directly on Trish’s fundraising page.
Take it to the Mat takes place November 2nd at the National Ballet School of Toronto. For more information, visit the event’s official website.
