For the first time in a while, NXT TakeOver will hold two women’s matches. The next TakeOver event will be held in Toronto and as usual, will occur the day before the next WWE pay-per-view. It will take place on Aug. 10.
WWE has officially announced that the NXT Women’s Championship will be defended. The champion Shayna Baszler will face off against Mia Yim in order to try and keep her gold. She has held the title since October at the Evolution pay-per-view where she defeated Kairi Sane. This will be Yim’s first TakeOver event.
The second match announced is Candice LeRae facing her newly formed rival Io Shirai. Shirai turned on her former ally just last month. After she failed to capture the title against Baszler in a steel cage, Shirai attacked LeRae causing her to claim her self-sufficiency. In the process, she put her babyface ways behind her and unleashed her heel persona.
This will be the first time there have been two women’s matches on a TakeOver card since TakeOver: Brooklyn II in August 2016.
