WWE broke the sad news just hours ago that Bayley will be out of action for approximately nine months due to an injury.
As a result, she is unable to compete at Money in the Bank and challenge Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. That match was planned as an “I Quit” Match. Belair will receive a new opponent that will be announced on tonight’s SmackDown.
Fightful Select is reporting a lot of insight on what happened to Bayley. From the people they have spoken to in WWE, Bayley was training at the Performance Center with another Superstar this week. During the training her “knee popped” and it has been concluded that it is her ACL. This isn’t officially from WWE or Bayley herself, just what Fightful has found out from speaking to staff and talent. The injury is being categorized as a “freak accident.”
From what has transpired and as of Friday afternoon, they have heard that her injury may have caused plans to change for incoming talent. Two talents on the SmackDown roster reportedly were openly frustrated that the company’s lack of depth left them scrambling to find an appropriate replacement, with one saying “they did it to themselves.”
This was said before acknowledging that Bayley helped carry the company during difficult times especially since the start of the pandemic. She has always been regarded as easy to work with even when so much extra has been asked of her.
Bayley’s injury, although common, has hit fans and fellow talent hard. She has been the glue that has held WWE programming together recently and has been one hell of a work horse. Below are just some of the social media messages people have left:
WrestleVotes tweeted out in the past hour alluding to a call up being made to SmackDown. Although they kept the post open for interpretation one can assume this will possibly be Bayley’s replacement or perhaps an additional member(s) on the blue brands roster in general.
Diva Dirt once again sends out our heartfelt well wishes to Bayley. May she heal up quickly and safely and return to continue as our Role Model. ?
