This week’s AEW Dynamite from Kansas, MO, was the go-home show for AEW’s first PPV of 2020, Revolution, which is taking place this Saturday.
It was announced earlier in the week that the AEW Women’s World Championship would be on the line when the champion, Nyla Rose defends against Kris Statlander.
Before we get into all the goings-on on Dynamite let us take a look at the wonder that was Penelope Ford on AEW Dark.
Kip Sabian took on Joey Janela in a falls count anywhere match, in which Sabian and Janela beat the hell out of each other in fun and imaginative ways. However, despite their stellar efforts to steal the show, it was Penelope Ford that shone the brightest.
During the match, Ford got involved throughout taking out Janela in wonderful ways whenever she got the chance.
Ford here once again proved that she is a superstar and in a women’s division that needs superstars, AEW needs to recognise this and give her a lot more time and opportunity to shine on a much bigger level.
Onto to AEW Dynamite and onto a really good and entertaining four-way match between, Big Swole, Hikaru Shida, Shanna and Yuka Sakazki.
The action was fast and a little chaotic at times with all involved exchanging multiple strikes, counter-strikes, dropkicks, hurricanranas and suicide dives.
The action reached a crescendo when Shida would use Sakazaki as a weapon and slam her onto Big Swole for a close fall before hitting Swole with a knee strike for the victory.
This was a fun match in which everyone got the chance to shine in this match and it was good to see Shida getting back to winning ways. However, it was a strange decision to have Big Swole take the loss after the confrontation with Nyla Rose and Kris Statlander over the AEW Women’s World Championship last week.
Winner: Hikaru Shida
Shida is another superstar that AEW needs to give more opportunity to. Shida has been a standout performer since the very early days of AEW and has just got better and better. Her victory on the show will put her one step closer to championship contention, which is just where she needs to be.
Loser: Big Swole
Don’t get me wrong Big Swole looked great here but the once again the decision to have taken the pinfall was confusing. Swole is another megastar in waiting that the division could and should revolve around. AEW needs to build her up strong and have her start to work her way up the standings and stop her taking losses.
Final Thoughts:
Not much about the AEW Women’s World Championship match taking place at Revolution, which was an odd choice and shows that the division still has some way to come in regard to its priority in the company. All the other matches taking place on the PPV got major coverage but not the women’s match, which is simply just not good enough.
