This week’s AEW Dynamite promised us a banger of a match that featured the former AEW Women’s Champion, Nyla Rose take on the returning Big Swole.
We haven’t seen Big Swole in an AEW ring since March when she defeated Leva Bates in 90 seconds. Big Swole would have a tough return match on her hands with Nyla Rose looking to get back to winning ways after losing to Hikaru Shida two weeks ago at Double or Nothing.
Big Swole and Nyla Rose went head to head in AEW. way back in January with “the Native Beast” emerging as the victor. Would this week’s match up have the same outcome? Well here’s Big Swole’s thoughts on that question.
To begin the show AEW showed a video stating their support and solidarity for Black Lives Matter.
Before the action took place we got a great video of Britt Baker’s road to recovery. The video featured footage of Baker’s half-arsed rehabilitation training.
This is good stuff and great use of Baker while she recovers from her knee injury. More of this, please.
Baker would be watching the match from ringside on the back of a glammed up golf kart aptly named “Role’s Royce.”
The match started with Big Swole using her power and technique to tie up Rose into a headlock. A headlock takeover followed and a roll-up for the first two-count of the match.
Back from the break Rose hit Swole with a backbreaker. Rose would go for a big splash but Swole woulf get her knees up.
Big Swole would then hit some big strikes. Punches, kicks and a big headbutt that rocks both competitors. Big Swole would shake it off and hit a running uppercut in the corner and nice slingshot cutter for another two-count.
More heavy punches and a fierce backhand keeps Swole in control and a big bicycle kick gets Rose down for another two-count.
Nyla hits a spear and goes for the Beastbomb but Swole escapes.
A kick to the head staggers Rose and Swole goes for Dirty Dancing but Nyla counters into a big sit out spine buster for the win.
This was a really physical encounter with Big Swole looking particularly dominant. Swole looked strong in defeat despite losing to one move, but I guess that was a way of making Nyla remain powerful.
After the match, Tony Schiavone interviews Big Swole at ringside. Swole says that it was good to be back and the two months away gave her time to re-centre. Baker would interrupt but Big Swole would chase her off with a steel chair.
Now lets get to the winners and losers
Winner: Big Swole
Despite the loss, Big Swole looked great here. The two months away have seemed to refresh and reenergize her. Swole looked sharp, focused and raring to go. Her performance in the ring was strong, dominant and shows that she is one of the most charismatic and talented women they have on their roster.
Similar to last week there wasn’t anyone and any action that warrants to be placed under the losers section.
Final Thoughts
A good show all round.
The Britt Baker segment was very good and keeps her relevant, in the mix and seemingly starting feuds with everyone on the roster.
The match was good with an impressive showing by Big Swole and a return to winning ways for Nyla Rose.
Good stuff from all involved.
In other news, it was announced that Fyter Fest will be a two-night event. The shows will run on the July 1 and 8 episodes of AEW Dynamite. All titles will be on the line and after this week’s performance, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Hikaru vs Big Swole for the AEW Women’s Championship.
