Winners & Losers: NXT 01/15/2020

NXT gave us a great night of wrestling in front of a red hot Full Sail crowd. The show featured the number one contender’s battle royal for the NXT Women’s Championship with the winner going on to face Rhea Ripley or Toni Storm at NXT TakeOver: Portland next month.

For the full report of last night’s events click here.

Who were the winner and losers of last night’s show? Let’s find out.

Winner: Bianca Belair

As the winner of the number one contender’s battle royal for the NXT Women’s Championship, it is pretty much a given she be a winner here in this review. Belair possesses such charisma, style and attitude she instantly stands out from the crowd and her raw strength and athletic ability amazes and astounds whenever she steps into the ring.

At times, Belair has suffered from some stop-start booking that has kept her from reaching the pinnacle of the division. Now she has some real momentum behind her leading into the biggest storyline of her career, can this be the year the EST of NXT gets her hands on the women’s top prize? I certainly hope so.

The final shot of Belair flexing, posing and swinging her hair in celebration was a fantastic ending to a fantastic NXT show and one that shows everyone just who she is.

Winner: Io Shirai

So good is Shirai, she gets massively cheered as a heel. Her passion and performances are amazing but it is her character work, movements about the ring and her facial expressions that are such a joy to watch you can’t help but support her.

It is these characteristics and her full throttle wrestling style that set her apart from the immensely stacked NXT women’s roster. The match that took place between Shirai and Belair as the final two in the battle royal showed just why she and Belair for that matter are the future of the business and could easily slot into any of the current WWE rosters and not look out of place any way, shape or form.

Winner: Shotzi Blackheart

Shotzi got a big shine by eliminating Shayna Baszler in only her second televised NXT match. The moment was not lost on camera, commentary or the live crowd, who chanted her name ferociously. A great way to establish a new and upcoming talent, while giving her angle with one of NXT’s biggest stars. Much more of this please.

Winner: Mercedes Martinez

Martinez is so good she just stepped straight in there and looked like she belonged instantly and if the showdown between her and Baszler was anything to go by they can just take all of my money right now.

Loser: Chelsea Green

After months of waiting to see Chelsea Green on NXT programming, we got to see her attack Mia Yim last week and become part of ‘The Robert Stone Brand’. When the battle royal was first announced Chelsea was featured but when the show aired her image had been removed and she was no longer to make her long-awaited NXT debut. So I guess we’ll have to wait a little longer.
