SmackDown Live had a lot to live up to from RAW this week. The main thing that put RAW over SmackDown this week was simply the surprise of Maria Kanellis. The women’s division has been stagnant since WrestleMania that a new face is going to get people talking.
SmackDown, unfortunately, did not have someone such as Kanellis to get people talking. Liv Morgan must still not be seen as a viable option along with no sight of the tag team division.
The Kabuki Warriors picked up a future Women’s Tag Team Championship match in Tokyo, Japan this past weekend. One would think they would be highlighted this week but no such luck.
Nikki Cross was blessed with hosting A Moment of Bliss this week. Her guest was Bayley. Bayley continued to try and convince Cross that she should be her opponent for Extreme Rules and not Alexa Bliss. Cross wasn’t buying it.
Bayley reminded her that she was the one to defeat her last week and also defeated Carmella on RAW the night before. This led to a match between these two.
The champion ended up pulling out the win and receiving retribution from her loss last week. Bayley countered a tornado DDT and issued a Bayley-to-Belly.
The second women’s match of the night was another retribution in the works. Ember Moon faced Mandy Rose this week. She lost to Sonya Deville in quick fashion last week as a result of Rose’s distraction.
The match itself had extreme potential but was still short. The match could have easily been another five minutes to make it great. Moon hits a Codebreaker off the middle rope and followed it up with an Eclipse for the win.
Let’s get to who made the Winners & Losers list this week.
WINNER: Ember Moon
Ember was able to pick up a big victory against the “bullies” that have been against her for weeks. So as far as this story is progressing she received some satisfaction finally. She worked well with Mandy in this match, but as stated earlier it would have been nice if it was longer. Same as with Sonya Deville the week before.
At this point though it needs to stop being a two on one type of scenario. Moon needs to grab a tag team partner such as Carmella. Let this lead to something and maybe make the tag team division exist.
LOSERS: The Kabuki Warriors
Still no sight of them. They have appeared once since May 14 on SmackDown and that was in a backstage segment hyping their match in Tokyo. Extreme Rules takes place on July 14. If they are not on next weeks episode then it will be two months since they had a match.
They should have been highly focused this week to build them up to face The IIconics at Extreme Rules.
