The SmackDown coming off of Clash of Champions saw Charlotte Flair facing Sasha Banks in singles competition. This was the only women’s match of the night and the sole focus for the women’s division.
Flair took on offense early as she utilized the corners of the ring to wear down Banks early as Bayley looked on from ringside. The SmackDown Women’s Champion continues to be up to no good as she attempts to help her best friend. She tries to untie the bottom turnbuckle much like she did to retain her title at Clash of Champions, but Flair caught her in time.
The Queen would continue to dominate the match and would get Banks locked into a Boston crab. After Banks would escape, Flair would give the big boot to her opponent knocking her outside the ring. Flair goes up top and hits a moonsault on both Banks and Bayley.
Back in the ring, Flair would lock in the Figure Four on Banks. Bayley would then cause the disqualification as she would attack Flair breaking up the submission. The double team between the best friends ensued until someone different came to make the same and that was – Carmella.
Carmella recently has been far away from the title picture and from most in-ring action as of late. She is able to get both women off of Flair much to the shock of Bayley as she is good friends with Carmella. The Princess of Staten Island would deliver a superkick to Banks. Flair would then take out Bayley with a big boot of her own.
Winner: Carmella
Carmella was a big winner of the night as she was an unexpected savior for The Queen to even the odds on tonight’s SmackDown. The main focus lately has been the Four Horsewomen, and although most fans are happy this is occurring, it is nice to see someone else in the mix.
They could have easily picked Ember Moon to save Flair as she has had a negative run-in with Bayley as of late. Some may have thought they could have used Liv Morgan for this, but that would have been just as confusing as last we saw her she was being defeated by Flair.
It remains to be seen where they are going to go with Carmella. Maybe have a Triple Threat at Hell in a Cell? It would be hard to imagine they would take out Flair from the title picture at this time.
With the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view less than three weeks away, they will have to announce the SmackDown Women’s Title match as soon as possible.
Losers: The Tag Team Division
There was no fallout or follow up from the Women’s Tag Team Title match from Clash of Champions. The champions were seen last night on RAW but not tonight. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville weren’t on and it seems that The IIconics haven’t made their way back yet.
Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross did mention that they wouldn’t mind facing The IIconics again, so maybe next week this will start building.
