The 2023 Royal Rumble is almost here! One of the fan’s favorite events of the year will take place this Saturday and it will hold the sixth women’s Royal Rumble match. A favorite match type of many, for women’s wrestling fans we weren’t able to have the full joy of the women participating in this match until 2018.
Prior to that, only three women had entered the Royal Rumble alongside the men: Chyna, Beth Phoenix, and Kharma. Before we go over any statistics for the women’s Rumble over the past five years, let us talk about the three aforementioned women.
Chyna was the first woman to ever enter a Royal Rumble and she appeared in this match type two years in a row (1999 & 2000). In 1999, Chyna won her entry into the Rumble by last eliminating Vince McMahon in the Corporate Rumble on Monday Night Raw. This had her enter in the 30th spot in the Royal Rumble.
Beth Phoenix became only the second woman to enter a Royal Rumble match when she appeared in 2010. She would enter at number six, and eliminate The Great Khali before being taken out by CM Punk.
Kharma would make a shocking appearance in the 2012 Royal Rumble match. The legend better known outside of WWE as Awesome Kong did not spend much time in WWE due to personal reasons was certainly a surprise to see. She entered the number 21 spot, intimidated Michael Cole to eliminate himself, and tossed Hunico over the top ropes. She was promptly then eliminated by Dolph Ziggler.
There is a fourth woman to have entered the men’s Rumble and that is Nia Jax. However, she did not enter a men’s Rumble until after the women’s Rumble was introduced. She did become the first woman to ever enter both a men’s and women’s Rumble on the same night in 2019. Much like Chyna, Jax entered the number 30 position only after taking out R-Truth. She sold an RKO by Randy Orton, eliminated Mustafa Ali, and then eliminated herself by Rey Mysterio. She holds the longest record for a woman in the men’s Rumble at just over three minutes.
Now let’s shift focus to the women’s royal rumble and more importantly the upcoming event. In the past five years, the winners who went on to WrestleMania after their win were – Asuka, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Bianca Belair, and Ronda Rousey. So far for this year, there are only seven women named out of the 30 so far. those names are – Liv Morgan, Rhea Ripley, Raquel Rodriguez, Shayna Baszler, Candice LeRae, Zelina Vega, and Emma.
Let’s go over the current Raw and SmackDown rosters and see how many (if any) Rumbles they have been in and any stats to go with them.
