Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.
Nikki Storm
Nikki Storm is quite simply one of the most natural all-round performers in professional wrestling today, with a presence – both verbally and physically – that forces you to hang on to every single word and motion that she produces. 2013 was the year when the parts of the world that aren’t Britain got to see what this phenomenal Glaswegian lass is truly capable of.
Things began positively, with Nikki winning the Pro Wrestling: EVE Championship from Emi Sakura in February in a wrestling clinic, then taking it with her to Japan and defending it in JWP against Hanako Nakamori. Back in Britain, she began to notch up some serious scalps, facing Mickie James in a losing effort in July then defeating Portia Perez in a brilliant contest at ICW: Fierce Females in September.
Shortly afterwards she made the trip across the Atlantic, spending a month on the American circuit and picking up big wins against Mia Yim in AIW and Su Yung and Veda Scott in SHIMMER, before getting a massive rub in defeating the veteran Nikki Roxx in her final SHINE match before her retirement. While in the States, Storm cemented herself as one of the most entertaining and watchable heels on the women’s scene for some time, and while we in Blighty are certainly glad to see her back on our shores for now, it may be only a matter of time before Nikki Storm becomes a real global sensation.
Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2013’s “Women of the Year”.
