Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.
Paige
Last, but certainly not least, we have Paige. There are many wrestling prodigies in the WWE right now, but hardly any are more promising than the current NXT Women’s Champion Paige. Born in sports entertainment, wrestling is in Paige’s blood. As she followed her parents Ricky and Saraya Knight into the business, everyone knew Paige had the fundamentals to make it. She was signed by the WWE in late 2011, but this was year that Paige finally made her mark.
Paige demonstrated in NXT that she is the total package. She has Diva good looks roughed up with an undertone of ominous moodiness. She has showcased her impressive in-ring ability in a Match of the Year-nominated performance with Emma, stellar battles with arch-rival Summer Rae and main roster mainstays like Alicia Fox and Tamina Snuka. This triple threat of talent is capped off by her solid mic work, as highlighted in backstage segments with Emma and Natalya. And of course, Paige made history by becoming the first ever NXT Women’s Champion, an accolade no other can say they achieved.
Paige isn’t here to be a cover girl, she’s here to cover girls in the ring…and win. That is precisely what she’s done.
Thank you for joining us in our celebration of 2013’s Women of the Year! Have a happy new year!
