Women of the Year 2013: Rain and Valkyrie

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2014, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2013.

Rain and Valkyrie

No stable has made as much of an impact in 2013 as Valkyrie. Consisting of leader Rain, the tag team of Allysin Kay and Taylor Made, trump card Ivelisse and manager April Hunter, the group have been on a path of utter dominance since their formation at SHINE 6 in January, and have shown few signs of stopping.

Allysin Kay and Taylor Made quickly made themselves known as SHINE’s hottest up-and-coming tag team when they first joined forces in SHINE’s early days, and by the time Valkyrie were formed they were already an established force. Since then, despite some setbacks, Made in Sin have continued to pose a serious threat – both in singles and tag competition – to anyone who stands in their way.

Rain is currently SHINE Champion, a title everyone was expecting her to either lose or relinquish earlier this month at SHINE 15. However, in a shocking twist she announced that her planned retirement was officially cancelled, and that she was here to stay.

Her next opponent, however, will be Valkyrie’s breakout star Ivelisse – arguably the most independent member of the group. 2013 has been a year of incredible match after incredible match for the Huntress, from her standout contest against LuFisto at SHINE 7 to her magnificent matches against Mia Yim throughout the year. With her and Rain set for a collision course in January, will Valkyrie be able to hold together? Given the year they’ve had, it’d be a shame for them not to.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2013’s “Women of the Year”.
