Women of the Year 2014: Candice LeRae

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2015, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2014.

Candice LeRae

It’s possibly the most indelible image from women’s wrestling in 2014: Candice LeRae, face soaked in blood, clutching a newly won title belt.

This followed an absolute show stopper of a match in which The Young Bucks defended the PWG Tag Team Titles against the World’s Cutest Tag Team, Candice LeRae and Joey Ryan. The match was Guerilla Warfare, allowing for all kinds of weapons. Candice was busted open during the match, leaving her with a veritable crimson mask. She’d win the match for her team with a “Ballsplex” onto thumbtacks, but not before dropping some tacks into her unfortunate opponent’s shorts.

Thus, Candice and Joey were the new PWG Tag Team Champions, putting an end to The Young Bucks’ record 560 day reign.

This wasn’t the only tag team gold The World’s Cutest Tag Team would score this year. That same month, they became FSP Tag Team Champions. The month before that, they nabbed the DREAMWAVE Tag Team Championships. Clearly, this was the summer of Candice and Joey.

If that wasn’t enough, Candice claimed singles gold as well. In October, she became FWE Women’s Champion by defeating Ivelisse, who had just ended Maria Kanellis‘s two year reign with the title.

Add to all of this appearances in SHIMMER, SHINE, Queens of Combat and the finals of WSU’s Queen and King Of The Ring tournament, and you have a jam packed year. It’s a wonder Candice has time to conquer the internet as well, starring the aptly named Candice & Joey Show.

If there’s one thing 2014 proved as far as Candice is concerned, it’s this: whether she’s got Joey Ryan by her side or she’s flying solo, she’s on the fast track to stardom. Headline-grabbing title wins in Intergender matches and unforgettable images such as the one above ensure that the name Candice LeRae will be on people’s lips for years to come.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2014’s Women of the Year.
