Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2015, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2014.
Gail Kim
Another year, another set of stellar performances from the Knockout of all Knockouts, Gail Kim.
2014 didn’t get off to the best start for the British Boot Camp judge, who lost the Knockouts Championship to Madison Rayne in January. Business picked up shortly afterwards though as she bested Madison in a Street Fight and even beat her in Japan. Despite not quite getting the coveted belt back around her waist yet, Gail was pulling out premier performances to prove she was gunning for the gold.
After disposing of her muscle and protégé-turned-nuisance Lei’D Tapa, viewers witnessed a chance in attitude and direction for Gail. After Angelina Love returned to the division, TNA’s Canadian Ninja took exception the bleach blonde’s rivaling level of success. After coming up short once in her quest to reclaim the gold, Gail managed to capture the Knockouts Championship for a fourth time. Gail was back on top and rightfully so.
After besting Angelina once and for all in a show-stealing Last Knockout Standing match, Gail’s long-standing rivalry with Taryn Terrell reignited alongside a fresh feud against the menacing Havok. Gail battled injuries and adversity to pull out impressive performances against both Terrell and Havok in singles action. Whether it be delivering neckbreakers on steel steps or getting hit with severe spinebusters on the arena floor, Gail put everything on the line.
A still-injured Kim’s 2014 came to a close in triple-threat fashion against the two rivals she has tussled with in recent times. Although now without the title thanks to Havok, Gail shone in a triple threat match that was the perfect way to end the year. Although she was pinned to end the year, Taryn winning the title was definitely not a passing of the torch. Gail has bounced back many a time before, and in 2015, we’re betting she will grab the gold and steal the show again.
