Women of the Year 2015: Asuka

Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2016, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2015.

Asuka

Despite only debuting three months ago, NXT’s Asuka has already become one WWE’s most over competitors and pulled out a Match of the Year candidate.

The former Kana has performed across the world and received monumental acclaim for her craft, tremendous work that was finally recognized by the WWE back in the summer. Come September, Kana had signed to the WWE and the Empress of Tomorrow was to blow the roof off every single room she stepped foot in.

Since her debut, the reborn Asuka has been feuding with the conniving duo of Emma and Dana Brooke. Her enthusiasm at working for NXT was taken for weakness by Emma and Dana, a mistake that the latter quickly became aware of at TakeOver: Respect. The likes of Billie Kay, Cameron and Deonna Purazzo also witnessed Asuka’s hard-hitting style first hand as the former two tapped out and the latter was knocked out. Whether she has to use her fists, feet, elbows, knees or hips, Asuka will have a manoeuvre in her repertoire perfect for taking anyone out anywhere and at any time.

It was at December’s TakeOver: London that Asuka made her biggest impression yet. In a match that went for close to fifteen minutes, she and Emma put on an all-time Diva classic, a match unparalleled in terms of technicality. Emma may be vicious and venomous, but Asuka’s onslaught was the antidote. The Empress of Tomorrow remained undefeated, and we can honestly see her finishing 2016 without a cross in the L column. She is just that good.

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned 2015’s WOTY.
