The match came about in the midst of an Ember Moon interview with the press to discuss winning the NXT Women’s Championship. Moon said winning the title at TakeOver: War Games was a dream come true and that her goal was to be the greatest NXT Women’s Champion in history.
She was then interrupted by the Iconic Duo Billie Kay and Peyton Royce who had a question of their own: Who did Ember Moon pin at TakeOver: War Games? Royce reminded Moon that she pinned Nikki Cross and thus, Royce deserves a chance to get her hands on Moon again.

Elsewhere on the show, Sonya Deville and Ruby Riott returned to NXT to settle the score in their on-going NXT feud in a No Holds Barred match.

When Riott went for the Riot Kick, Deville caught it to lock in the ankle lock. Riott escaped the hold by climbing and utilizing the ring ropes.
Following a commercial break, Deville was able to escape a sleeper submission by raking Riotts’ eyes and landing two sliding knees to Riott’s back. Deville then began to wear Riott down with a head in arm triangle. Riott managed to break the from Deville’s grip through elbow shots to the midsection and then bringing Deville down with an STO.
After getting hit with a springboard face crusher from Riott, Deville slipped to the outside but was taken down by a suicide dive. Riott tossed Deville back in the ring but as she was heading back in the ring, Deville caught Riott in a triangle hold through the ropes. The submission eventually caused Riott to pass out, thus declaring the win to Deville.
