WWE made it official just a few moments ago that the Women’s Tag Team Titles will be on the line at the upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view. It will be the champions, Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler defending their titles against the challengers – The Riott Squad.
Jax & Baszler still are presented as an unlikely partnership and up until last week the two still don’t seem to be on the best of terms. In fact, Liv Morgan pinned Baszler last week and was mere moments away from pinning Jax in a separate match on the same night. The finish to that match did not occur thanks to an interruption by RETRIBUTION.
The Riott Squad won their spot to face the current champions after defeating The IIconics just a couple of weeks ago. That match had the stipulation of the losers no longer remaining a tag team. The IIconics have since called it quits.
Jax & Baszler have only been the tag champs since they defeated Sasha Banks & Bayley at Payback on Aug. 30. Will The Riott Squad be able to make the makeshift team’s reign a short one? Or will the Jax and Baszler continue their unlikely partnership?
This match joins the card as the second women’s match. It was determined on Friday that Nikki Cross will get another shot against Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Title. As for the RAW Women’s Title – Asuka defends her belt tonight on RAW against Mickie James. The match for the RAW Women’s Title at Clash of Champions, as a result, is still up in the air.
