Women’s Title match set for TakeOver: Philadelphia

Tonight on NXT (Jan 17th), it was announced that at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, Ember Moon will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Shayna Baszler.

During tonight’s show, Aliyah squared off against Lacey Evans. Evans wins early control a wrist lock but Aliyah escapes. She shoved Evans and takes her down with a leg sweep for a cover but Evans escapes with a bridge. Evans goes for a backslide Aliyah avoids it and recovers with a forearm.

Evans reverses an Irish Whip and sends Aliyah to a corner, where she rubbed Aliyha’s face off the top rope. Evans followed up a leg sweep and an slingshot elbow drop for a two count.

Evans sends Aliyah to the opposite corner and lands kick to the midsection. Aliyah begins to fight back with forearms, an uppercut, flying clothesline off the second rope and a Northern Lights suplex for a two count.

Evans is able to regroup at a corner after connecting a jaw breaker. Aliyah charges after Evans but is struck with a big right punch that leaves her down for the three count.

Post match, Evans took took to the mic to refer herself as a proper, sophisticated and powerful woman who is ready to clean house.

As she began name dropping the likes of Nikki Cross, Ember Moon and Kairi Sane, Shayna Baszler appeared. Evans headed to the back as Baszler entered the ring to choke out Aliyah.

Baslzer released the choke hold and left the ring after Ember Moon ran in to make the save. Moon then challenged Baszler to get in the ring to fight but Baszler said she didn’t bring her in-ring gear but would agree to face Moon at Philadelphia for the NXT Women’s Title.

During a backstage interview, NXT General Manager William Regal made the NXT Women’s Title match official.

He is then confronted by Zelina Vega who begins to explain to Regal as to why Johnny Gargano has zero chance of winning the NXT Championship at TakeOver. She refers to Gargano as a sham and loser and says she and the NXT Champion Andrade Almas are ready for him.

NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia airs Saturday January 27th at 8 PM ET on the WWE Network.
