Tonight, the WWE Women’s Division will be showcased all throughout WWE’s biggest PPV of the year with four matches featuring women on this year’s WrestleMania card.
First-ever WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal:
The female Superstars of Raw, SmackDown LIVE and NXT will have the chance to make history yet again when they compete in the inaugural WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal at WrestleMania Kickoff tonight.
As first announced on Raw, the groundbreaking battle royal will feature female Superstars from all three shows competing to be the last Superstar standing in the over-the-top-rope melee. This monumental contest at The Showcase of The Immortals is the latest in a series of next-level bouts that exemplify the Women’s Evolution, which has also featured the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble and Women’s Elimination Chamber Match.
Raw Women Championship: Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax:
When Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss defends her title against her longtime “best friend” Nia Jax at WrestleMania 34, The Goddess of WWE may be asking herself the same question that’s on the mind of the WWE Universe: “How did we get here?”
With the championship around her waist and Mickie James and Jax by her side, Bliss thought she had the Raw Women’s division completely under her thumb. The titleholder seemed supremely confident that she could hold on to the title for the foreseeable future… but then she let her guard down.
As WrestleMania 34 approached and the WWE Universe began to wonder what would happen if the “BFFs” ever collided, Little Miss Bliss started to tactically tear down The Irresistible Force, all while claiming that it was coming from a caring place. Bliss jumped at every opportunity to reinforce the idea that Nia had “let everyone down,” only to then offer to help build Jax back up as a means of keeping her out of the title picture.
Bliss revealed her true colors on the March 12 edition of Raw when Bliss believed she was having a private conversation with Mickie about how she actually couldn’t stand Jax… only to find out that the cameras were rolling, and the mics were hot. Nia, witnessing this from the ring as it happened, became instantly enraged, chased after the panicked Alexa and then laid out Mickie the following week while Bliss still attempted to keep her distance.
What will happen when The Irresistible Force finally gets her hands on Bliss at WrestleMania? Will Alexa overcome incredible odds to prevail with the Raw Women’s Title yet again? Or will Jax show why Alexa wanted to keep her out of the title scene by triumphing over Little Miss Bliss?
SmackDown Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka:
Asuka left WWE fans guessing after her historic victory in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match: Would she challenge Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss or SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair? At WWE Fastlane, that question was finally answered when Asuka pointed to the WrestleMania sign while simultaneously staring daggers at Charlotte.
On The Grandest Stage of Them All, the undefeated Empress of Tomorrow will attempt to seize the crown from The Queen herself, in what has potential to be the greatest women’s match in WrestleMania history.
Charlotte has been on a red-hot streak during her reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion, knocking off every opponent in her way, including Ruby Riott at WWE Fastlane despite repeated interference attempts from The Riott Squad.
To say that The Empress of Tomorrow is her most formidable challenger yet is an extreme understatement. The undefeated powerhouse has an incredible arsenal at her disposal, as well as a charismatic attitude that can give her a psychological advantage over any foe. One thing is becoming more and more clear every time she steps in the ring: Nobody is ready for Asuka – including Charlotte Flair.
Can Charlotte hand Asuka her very first defeat in WWE, or will the second-longest SmackDown Women’s Title reign come to an end at The Showcase of Immortals?
Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs. Stephanie McMahon & Triple H:
Welp, The Road to WrestleMania just got Rowdy.
Ronda Rousey’s arrival in WWE should’ve been a moment of great triumph for Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H. Instead, their signing of the sports icon quickly turned tumultuous when Raw General Manager Kurt Angle opted to speak out with some inconvenient “truths.”
During Rousey’s historic Raw contract signing at WWE Elimination Chamber, Angle put Triple H & Stephanie on blast, saying they were most excited about getting “Hot Ronda” under contract to “own” the “has-been” and exact measures of retribution from when she embarrassed them during an in-ring confrontation at WrestleMania 31. “Rowdy” Ronda did not take kindly to these claims and retaliated by shockingly smashing The King of Kings through a table. Rousey’s bold move prompted Stephanie to try and slap the life out of the first-ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, but she quickly fled the ring when it appeared that Rousey was going to strike back.
The Authority tried to do damage control the next night on Raw. Once it was clear that something had promoted Angle to be much more concerned about his job than he had 24 hours earlier, WWE’s power couple proceeded to backtrack the claims that got Rousey’s temperature rising in the first place. It appeared all had been quelled when Stephanie surprisingly even apologized to Ronda, but the good vibes died quickly when The Game suddenly blindsided the Raw GM with a punch right to his face.
On Raw the next week, Stephanie reminded Ronda that bosses sometimes make decisions that are difficult to understand, and asked Rousey who she wanted to face in her first WWE match at WrestleMania, and The Baddest Woman on the Planet immediately targeted Stephanie.
Both Triple H and Stephanie hemmed and hawed at the request, stating that she couldn’t compete due to her being an executive, but The Olympic Hero quickly struck back, reminding her that, on top of their executive contracts, Stephanie and The Game both also had deals in place as WWE Superstars. Using that technicality, he quickly made a match pitting him & “Hot Ronda” against Triple H & Stephanie in a Mixed Tag Team Match at WrestleMania 34. Ronda & Kurt sealed the deal by taking down The Authority, signaling that The Road to WrestleMania would be anything but best for business.
Will the pairing of Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle, two of the most decorated sports figures of all time, silence The Authority at WrestleMania? Or, will Stephanie McMahon & Triple H overcome Rousey & Angle’s impressive pedigrees with Pedigrees of their own on The Grandest Stage of Them All?
