Writers’ Choice Awards 2014: Best Heel – Stephanie McMahon

Diva Dirt presents its fourth annual Writers’ Choice Awards, as decided by the Diva Dirt team. As we come to the end of 2014, we have picked the best of the best to be awarded our Writers’ Choice trophies.

Best Heel: Stephanie McMahon

You hated her when she was the Billion Dollar Princess, prancing around with an unearned Women’s Title on her shoulder and hiding behind the combined strength of the McMahon-Helmsley regime.

You hated her when she was the owner of ECW, helping orchestrate the Invasion of the WWE alongside her brother Shane McMahon.

You hated her she was punishing Daniel Bryan, keeping him down in the name of what’s “best for business”.

But you loved, absolutely love to hate Stephanie McMahon when she was tormenting Brie Bella, getting arrested on live television, masterminding Nikki Bella‘s betrayal, getting thrown into a pool of mud by Vickie Guerrero and pitching a royal hissy fit upon losing her grip of power over the WWE at Survivor Series.

Stephanie officially returned to the WWE in 2012, but it wasn’t until this year that the true heir to the McMahon throne resurfaced. In everything she did this year, the highs and the lows, she proved that she is every bit Vince McMahon‘s daughter. In a good way, of course. That’s why, for the second year in the row, we’re crowning Stephanie McMahon the Best Heel of the Year.

She’s displayed that uncanny McMahon ability to produce epic amounts of schadenfreude for the WWE Universe, the audience absolutely delighting in seeing her brought low. But these aren’t humiliating moments in the sense of your typical female heel. Her gender doesn’t come into it at all.

That’s the magic of being Vince’s daughter: you could easily picture him experiencing all the humiliations Stephanie did this year: mud baths, arrests, physical intimidation by wrestlers and moments of absolutely pathetic desperation. She isn’t treated as a witch: she’s treated as the McMahon heir. And she’s absolutely earned it.

Few can make fans enjoy – really enjoy – seeing evil deeds done. Stephanie has that ability, partially because deep down, you know she’ll get every bit of it coming back to her, and in the most entertaining way possible.

Stay tuned for more Writers’ Choice Award reveals throughout the day.
