Writers’ Choice Awards 2015: Best Tag Team/Group – The Kimber Bombs

Diva Dirt presents its fifth annual Writers’ Choice Awards, as decided by the Diva Dirt team. As we come to the end of 2015, we have picked the best of the best to be awarded our Writers’ Choice trophies.

Best Tag Team/Group: The Kimber Bombs (Cherry Bomb & Kimber Lee)

In a year that was all about female factions – from Team B.A.D., Team PCB and Team Bella to The Dollhouse, the resurrection of The Beautiful People and the ever-evolving Valkyrie – no alliance had as much success as the duo known as the Kimber Bombs.

This year, Cherry Bomb and Kimber Lee managed to do what no other team has done: capture the two biggest tag titles in the United States women’s wrestling scene. In March, at SHINE 25, the team got their first taste of gold, defeating Legendary (ring veterans Brandi Wine and Malia Hosaka) to become the third duo to hold the SHINE Tag Team Titles.

When it rained, it poured, as evidenced by the second major success the team encountered less than a month later at the taping of SHIMMER volume 72. There, they bested long time SHIMMER Tag Team Champions 3G (Kellie Skater and Tomoka Nakagawa), putting an end to their unprecedented 727-day reign. Within the space of a month, Cherry Bomb and Kimber Lee became the most decorated tag team in women’s wrestling.

Still, Cherry Bomb and Kimber Lee’s success as a team never hindered their individual achievements. Far from it, in fact: Cherry became WSU Champion in May, defeating LuFisto in the main event of WSU’s Power iPPV.

Kimber Lee has done even better for herself, winning the WSU Tag Team Championships with her other tag team partner, fellow Chick Using Nasty Tactics Annie Social, in February. June saw her become the inaugural Legacy Wrestling Women’s Champion. She also picked up the Maryland Championship Wrestling Women’s Title in November, defeating none other than Mickie James to take the gold. Perhaps most impressive of all, though, was Kimber’s historic CHIKARA Grand Championship victory, which made her the very first woman to hold the belt.

Though they soared high, the Kimber Bombs couldn’t fight the scourge of injury. When Cherry Bomb suffered a broken collarbone at WSU Excellence in September, she and Kimber were forced to vacate the SHINE Tag Team Titles. At SHINE 31 in December, Jayme Jameson and Marti Belle picked up the belts, coming out on top of a title tournament.

Nevertheless, with Cherry Bomb well on the road to recovery, the duo still has possession of the prestigious SHIMMER Tag Team Titles. Today, those belts serve as both a reminder of their meteoric rise in 2015 and a promise of the success they’ll surely share in 2016.

Stay tuned for more Writers’ Choice Award reveals throughout the day.
