WWE announces launch of new UK series

During today’s (June 18th) taping of WWE’s United Kingdom Championship Tournament in London, it was announced that the WWE will launch a new NXT UK series. The new series will feature competitors from the UK and Ireland.

In addition to the UK Championship title, two new Championships – the UK Women’s Championship and UK Tag Team Championship – will be on the line during the first set of NXT UK events listed below:

  • Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge
  • Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26, as part of Insomnia, the U.K.’s biggest gaming festival, at NEC Birmingham
  • Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, at Plymouth Pavilions
  • Saturday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 25, at Liverpool Olympia

WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events & Creative had the following to say about the new project:

“The U.K. has an amazing talent base and incredibly passionate fans that are deserving of their own showcase. This is the next step in our ongoing strategy to create localized content and further develop our brand globally.”

In recent weeks, the WWE have been scouting out talents from the UK, including reportedly signing the likes of Toni Storm and Jinny to WWE UK deals.

There are currently no details on whether the series will air on a UK television broadcaster or the WWE Network.
