WWE Diva’s Championship 2008-2016

The Diva’s Championship came at a time when there was a major influx of female talent in the WWE. There were three separate brands and close to twenty women (Trish Stratus in an interview during this time suggested that the women were not really distinct from each other and WWE needed to slim down their women’s roster) actively competing during this time. The inaugural champion was Michelle McCool who defeated Natalya and the last champion was Charlotte Flair.  What was interesting, however, was no white woman who was not a blonde held the Diva’s Championship.

There were 17 different champions during this era, and this is actually where the spread of the women was more diverse; we had 9 Caucasian champions and 8 Champions of Colour, it is the only time where there was more Champion of Colour in Title reign count; 13 to 12, and total days held, 1437 days to 1130, however it is to note that of the 12 Caucasian Diva’s Champions, 8 of them were Blondes. The three reigns of AJ Lee and Eve Torres, as well as the really long reigns of AJ Lee and Nikki Bella, helped quite a bit.

Total Day Reigns: 2567, White/Blonde Champions: 1130, Non-White: 1437.

After the Diva’s Championship was retired, we got the WWE Women’s Championship, which became the RAW Women’s Championship in 2016 during the brand split, and subsequently, a Smackdown Women’s Championship was created.
