WWE releases are continuing with big names added. In a report by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, he has stated that Ruby Riott, Lana, and Santana Garrett have been released.
Ruby Riott was most recently utilized in a match last week alongside her Riott Squad partner Liv Morgan. They faced the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina in a non-title bout which they came up on the losing end. Riott first signed with WWE in 2016. She made a big splash on the main roster in 2017 alongside Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan known as The Riott Squad. At one point they were split up and were underused as singles competitors. Logan was released last year during cuts from the roster.
After coming up short in the match, the team showed signs of a heel turn. They were a crucial team during the start of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in 2019. The Riott Squad were sadly never booked to win the titles.
Liv Morgan has commented on the release of her tag team partner.
Santana Garrett signed with WWE in 2019 and is known to be a ring veteran on the indie scene. Although her signing created an initial buzz, Garrett was used mostly as an enhancement talent in NXT. She was rumored to have been called up to the main roster and most likely was planned to report to the SmackDown brand. This was the case for other recently released talent such as Chelsea Green and Vanessa Borne.
Lana, the longest tenured of the releases, signed with WWE in 2013 alongside her now-husband Rusev (AEW’s Miro). Starting her career as a manager for Rusev, Lana eventually wanted more experience in the ring and frequently worked hard to get there. She was also a star on Total Divas for several seasons until being removed from the show last season.
After Rusev left the company last year, Lana was then placed as an in-ring talent and she has been working in the ring ever since. She entered in a feud with Nia Jax/Shayna Baszler where she was weekly put through the announce table. She was originally in a tag team with Natalya before starting a team with Naomi. Most recently she was on this week’s RAW in a tag team match with Naomi. They faced Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke in a losing effort.
