Over the weekend on December 26, WWE launched its Holiday Live Tour with house shows for both the Raw and SmackDown brands. Raw’s event took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City while SmackDown’s roster was in Tampa, Fla. at the Amalie Arena.
Both events had to be restructured due to COVID effects on several WWE Superstars and both had their scheduled main events changed. As for how this affected the women’s matches, the show at Madison Square Garden saw an absence to the RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions Zelina Vega, and Bianca Belair.
Male talent that was kept off the show in MSG – Seth Rollins, Big E, and Bobby Lashley and in Tampa – Roman Reigns, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Xavier Woods.
WWE announced at the beginning of both shows that some talent would not be present “due to the effects of COVID-19.”
The results of the shows for the women were as follows:
MSG show –
Natalya defeated Nikki A.S.H.
Rhea Ripley defeated Natalya
Tampa show –
Xia Li defeated Shotzi (Xia Li was attacked by Shayna Baszler post-match but stood tall at the end)
Dana Brooke kept hold of the 24/7 Title after fending off Aliyah and Toni Storm. First backstage and then in the ring. Drew Gulak helped Dana escape (after almost pinning her) backstage before she ran to the ring.
Charlotte Flair (c) defeated Sasha Banks – SmackDown Women’s Title Match
WWE is set to have its first pay-per-view event of the year, Day 1, this Saturday on New Year’s Day. So far, the only women’s match scheduled is Becky Lynch defending the RAW Women’s Championship against Liv Morgan.
At the time of this writing, WWE is hoping that the card for this Saturday can stay the same. WrestleVotes tweeted out the following below.
