WWE kickstarts Women’s History Month by celebrating champions

March is Women’s History Month and WWE kicked off the month yesterday by highlighting some of their current and prior champions. The champions selected range from all different eras who without all parts of women’s wrestling history we wouldn’t be where we are at today. The photo gallery presented in the tweet below features many Hall of Famers who pioneered this industry.

The list includes the following championships: The original women’s, Divas, RAW, SmackDown, NXT, NXT UK, and Tag Team. The list breaks down as follows:

Women’s Championship (1956-2010)

Divas Championship (2008-2016)

RAW Women’s Championship(2016-Present)

SmackDown Women’s Championship (2016-Present)

Women’s Tag Team Championship (2019-Present)

  • The Boss N Hug Connection
  • The IIconics
  • Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross
  • The Kabuki Warriors

NXT Women’s Championship (2013-Present)

NXT UK Women’s Championship (2018-Present)

Of course this list that was presented weren’t every woman that has held each title. There are also some women who have won multiple titles but were only being focused for one or two.

Last year during Women’s History Month, Diva Dirt focused on the “Pioneers” of this industry. This year we are going to deliver a similar emphasis. For this month we will be focusing on the “Unsung Heroes” of wrestling and delivering to you at least two a week. Each week will be a different era.

Who are some of your unsung heroes who should receive more accolades and recognition? Which era/title history is your favorite or for the newer titles where do you see them going?

Check back in with Diva Dirt to see who we selected as Unsung Heroes.
