WWE Main Event Redux (December 30th, 2014): A New Generation for New Year’s Eve

Welcome, readers, to the last Main Event write up of 2014! This year has absolutely flown by and so much has happened. As the title suggests, we got to see the next generation of Diva face off in the ring last night. Two of Diva Dirt’s own Women of the Year award winners squared off as current NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte took on her storied rival Sasha Banks (who is apparently Snoop Dogg’s cousin – who knew?!). I’m super excited to see the result.

Onwards!

Sasha is out first, swinging them hips and looking mighty fine as she goes. Charlotte heads out second, and the two ladies share a little trash talk in the ring, trading shoves, until Charlotte takes the upper hand with one of Daddy’s signature slaps to the chest. Charlotte goes for an early pin and gets a two count, and Sasha is quickly back on her feet.

Fighting her back into the corner, Sasha hangs Charlotte up on the middle ropes and delivers some hard knees to the stomach. Very impressive. She’s vicious, and I love her. Despite her smaller frame, Sasha has Charlotte where she wants her in the corner, with repeated boots to the side of the head. Sasha has Charlotte on the mat now, and mocks her father Ric Flair before delivering a big slap to the face!

Sasha with a two count on the Nature Boy’s daughter, before trying her very best to get Charlotte to tap out. What a knock that would be to the champion. Charlotte’s had enough, though, and comes back swinging with some big clotheslines. Sasha manages to land on her feet after a suplex attempt, but Charlotte is quick to turn things around and hits stunning neckbreaker. Sasha is down.

Charlotte isn’t done yet, however. She lines up Sasha for the moonsault, but Miss Banks is quick to move away and Charlotte lands on her feet. Sasha is still down though, and so Charlotte takes advantage and goes for the pin once again. Another two count as Sasha manages to get her foot on the bottom rope. After Charlotte turns her head, Sasha manages to drop her down face-first into the turnbuckle. After a neckbreaker, Sasha scores a very close two count.

The crowd can’t decide who they love more: Charlotte or Sasha! These are the kind of chants I love.

Sasha tries hard to take advantage, but Charlotte is more than savvy and drops Sasha face first onto the mat. Winded, Sasha doesn’t see the Natural Selection coming from behind and it’s Charlotte who gets the 1, 2, 3 and the win!

Thoughts: Ohhhh I liked that. I’m not going to lie, this is the most excited I’ve been about a Main Event match for a couple of weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the girls, but matches can get repetitive and this was such a breath of fresh air for me. Charlotte and Sasha both KILLED IT and you can feel the chemistry between them in the ring. It’s obvious they have a history, and I have to say I cannot wait for the day that one – PREFERABLY BOTH – of them makes it to the main roster. They would outshine so many of the other girls. Fantastic match.

That’s it from me for this year, folks! Have a wonderful and safe new year, and we’ll see you in 2015! x
