This week’s episode of WWE Superstars kicked off with women’s action. It was Nia Jax vs Alicia Fox in a rematch after their encounter at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view last month. Cory Graves mentions the fact that the definition of insanity is to repeat the same actions and expect a different outcome; putting over the fact that Fox has entered into this match up against better judgement.
The match starts with Nia attempting to toss Fox around similar to their previous encounter. However, Alicia has a different strategy going into this battle and locks in a sleeper hold with body scissors. Jax manages to break the hold, but Alicia quickly locks in another sleeper. Once again, Nia is able to break out and sends Foxy crawling to the corner turnbuckle. Jax charges, but is caught with a boot to the face.
Alicia attempts to capitalize by going for a jumping DDT, but is again thrown off by her opponent. The match continues with Nia now at the advantage until a dodged hip drop provides Alicia with the opening she needs to mount a comeback. Fox unleashes a flurry of moves from the scissors kick and a head scissors take over to a diving crossbody. Unfortunately for Fox, Nia was able to catch her during the crossbody attempt and hit the Samoan Drop for the win.
Thoughts: I thought this was a well worked match. Foxy really looked like a savvy ring veteran, and I love that she had such a marked difference in her approach. I also really want to applaud the bumps she took, they looked fantastic. Nia looked strong and resilient, continuing to perfect the character she has been crafting since her matches with Bayley and Asuka in NXT.
I feel like these two definitely have chemistry and you definitely get the vibe that this isn’t over between the two. After HIAC, I’d like to see these two get some more story and match time on RAW as a secondary feud. This was really good work from Fox, I hope the WWE rewards her for it.
